Rain!

It's finally raining today! Did you know that this was the first December since 1883 that there was no rain or snow in Reno for the whole month? That's the driest December in 128 years! We're finally getting some rain right now thought. Did you know that most of the water that's falling on us right now probably started out in the Pacific Ocean? It's true and it happens because of the water cycle. Water evaporates from the oceans and condenses to form clouds in the atmosphere. The wind blows those clouds east from the ocean, over California, and across Nevada. Lots of the water in the clouds is often lost on the mountains on the way over but today quite a bit made its way to us in Reno too. A scientist might call the rain a form of precipitation. All of this happens because of the water cycle. Check out this link if you want to know more about the water cycle and what causes rain!
