Did you hear or feel a very loud noise this morning at around 7:40? I didn't feel it myself but am hearing from from people all over Reno that did. Scientists are saying that the noise was most likely a sonic boom caused by a meteorite from the Lyrid meteor shower that happened last night. A sonic boom occurs when objects travel faster than the speed of sound. One of the meteorites might have gotten low enough in the atmosphere for such a sound to have occurred. It is even possible that the rock landed somewhere in the mountains around Reno. For more information on this event and on the meteor shower in general check out this article!
