Geminid Meteor Shower

Tomorrow night is the Geminid meteor shower. Because the moon is still pretty close to full viewing conditions might not be great, but this could be your chance to see some meteors. Some people think of meteors as shooting stars but really they are small rocks in space. When these rocks pass too close to the Earth they are caught by our gravity and pulled into the atmosphere. In the atmosphere, friction from the rocks rubbing against air molecules heats the rocks and causes them to burn and often to disintegrate before they reach the surface. We see these meteors as trails of light in the night sky. The shower is supposed to peak at around 8:00 tomorrow night with about 80 meteors per hour visible in some parts of the world. Check it out!
